Happy New Year!
It is always the time for resolutions, is it not?
Go to any home shopping channel on the new year and you will see it for yourself. Treadmills, healthy home delivery food services, exercise mats…. the works.
But as we all know, those resolutions are typically slowly but surely relinquished to the activities of our life. Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes they do stick and that is great but for the most part, not so much.
And when you have special needs in your life, it is even harder to make them and keep them, just because our lives are intricately tied to the lives of our children. And their journeys take us all on the rollercoaster that is their lives.
So, I always resolve not to resolve!
Except it hit me the other day, why not make one that can help you all year long?
One that is not hard to start…
or hard to keep….
Why not make your resolution to reorganize your records and paperwork for your child?
It’s the perfect time because you are leaving one year and all its records, charts and communication and entering the new year.
A fresh year.
A fresh start.
Get a fresh container or containers, folders, labels and you can start getting things in order.
And you can store away the previous year.
I like a clear, well labeled container with a locking lid. Each year is stored, yet you can see and access it quickly.
Why not make your resolution include cleaning out and throwing out papers that are well, just there
Something to do as you organize is to toss things that just really don’t need to be there. This can be a tough thing to do, I know because I like to hold on to things “just in case” it’s needed.
But I have learned over the years that certain things are not needed and can be tossed.
Why not make your resolution include a monthly check in on your organization system.
So when the calendar flips to a new month, make sure that any piles of paper that need put away get put away.
That way you can stay ahead of the mess, stay organized and know right where everything is.
This resolution will be one that will pay off all year! And one you will be happy to have made.
I wish everyone a peaceful week
